This piece is the Farsi alphabet written in a script I designed specifically for depicting heroic stories in Persian folklore. While each letter has sharp edges, there’s a beauty and softness in many of them.

آفتابکاران جنگل

This work is a depiction of a beautiful song that ironically became one of the anthems of the 1978 revolution in Iran. The song is popularly known as سر اومد زمستون. The poem was originally written as a reference to the incident at Siahkal سیاهکل in which a small armed group tried to take over a police outpost in northern Iran. They did not succeed but their memory lives on.

پیدا شدم

The prolific Iranian poet Rumi (1206-1273) has written several major volumes. This painting is about a poem that is not in any of his books but is undisputedly attributed to him. The poem describes the Sufi’s very complex journey of enlightenment and has been the subject of many musical performances.
The performance that inspired this piece is by the famous Iranian tenor, Shahram Nazeri who is considered one of the first musicians to include Rumi’s poetry within Persian music.
